Built on Purpose, Driven by Sustainability
Rochester IBC started with a simple observation: too many perfectly good IBC totes were ending up in landfills. We turned that problem into a business — and a mission.

From Waste to Worth
Rochester IBC was born out of frustration and opportunity. Our founders spent years working in Rochester's industrial corridor — the manufacturing belt stretching along the city's southern edge where chemical processors, food manufacturers, and pharmaceutical companies operate side by side. Every week, they watched as hundreds of Intermediate Bulk Containers, the 275-gallon polyethylene totes encased in steel cages that move everything from solvents to syrups, were hauled to landfills after a single use. The math was staggering: each tote contains roughly 20 pounds of high-density polyethylene and 30 pounds of galvanized steel, materials that take centuries to decompose and cost enormous energy to produce from raw resources. Yet companies were treating them as disposable.
The founding team started small, operating out of a rented bay on Commerce Drive with a pressure washer, a cargo van, and a handful of industry contacts. They reached out to local manufacturers and offered a simple proposition: instead of paying a waste hauler to send your used IBCs to the landfill, let us pick them up, inspect and recondition them, and put them back into circulation at a fraction of the cost of buying new. The response was immediate. Within six months, Rochester IBC had outgrown that first bay and expanded into a full-scale reconditioning facility at 145 Commerce Drive — the same address where we operate today, now with ten times the footprint and a team of dedicated specialists.
What began as an effort to divert a few hundred totes from the waste stream has grown into a regional operation that processes thousands of IBCs every month. We buy used totes from businesses across upstate New York, the Northeast, and beyond. We sell reconditioned containers to companies looking for affordable, high-quality bulk storage. We recycle totes that have reached the end of their structural life, separating the polyethylene bottles from the steel cages and channeling each material into the appropriate recycling stream. And we transport containers directly to and from customer facilities, making the entire process seamless.
The early years were defined by hands-on learning. Our founders personally picked up every used tote, cleaned each one by hand, and delivered reconditioned containers in the back of a cargo van. They learned which manufacturers produced the most durable cages, which cleaning methods worked best for different chemical residues, and which customers valued reliability above all else. Those lessons became the foundation of our standard operating procedures — processes that have since been refined, documented, and scaled, but never diluted. The attention to detail that defined our first hundred totes still defines our ten-thousandth.
As our reputation grew, so did our ambitions. We invested in professional-grade high-pressure wash systems capable of handling every type of residue, from food-grade syrups to industrial adhesives. We built multi-station inspection lines where every tote is evaluated against a standardized checklist before it earns approval for resale. We expanded our fleet from a single cargo van to multiple flatbed trucks and box trucks, enabling us to serve customers across a 300-mile radius with reliable pickup and delivery. And we hired a team of specialists — people who share our belief that industrial packaging does not belong in a landfill and who bring the skills and dedication to ensure it stays out.

Extending the Life of Every Container
Our mission is to eliminate single-use thinking from industrial packaging. Every IBC tote we recondition is one less container manufactured from virgin materials and one less load sent to a landfill. We exist to prove that sustainability and profitability are not competing goals — they are the same goal, approached with the right systems, the right expertise, and the right commitment to doing things properly.
A Tour of 145 Commerce Drive
Our facility at 145 Commerce Drive in Rochester, NY sits in the heart of the city's industrial corridor, surrounded by the manufacturers, distributors, and processors we serve every day. The location was chosen for its proximity to our customers and its easy access to I-390, I-490, and the New York State Thruway — logistics advantages that allow us to serve the entire Northeast efficiently.
The facility itself is organized around a linear workflow. Used totes arrive at the receiving dock, where they are offloaded, logged into our tracking system, and staged for inspection. From there, they move through our multi-point inspection stations, where technicians evaluate the bottle, cage, valve, lid, and pallet against our quality standards. Totes that pass inspection proceed to our wash bay, where high-pressure, temperature-controlled wash systems remove residues and contaminants. After washing, containers move to the reconditioning area for valve and gasket replacement, labeling, and final quality verification. Finished totes are staged in our ready-to-ship inventory area, organized by grade and configuration for fast order fulfillment.
The yard outside accommodates incoming used totes, outbound reconditioned inventory, and end-of-life containers awaiting disassembly and recycling. We maintain strict separation between these categories to prevent any mix-ups and ensure traceability at every stage. Visitors are welcome to tour our facility by appointment — we believe that transparency builds trust, and we are proud of the operation we have built.

Our Journey of Growth
First Bay on Commerce Drive
Rochester IBC launched from a single rented bay with a pressure washer, a cargo van, and a vision for giving used IBC totes a second life. Our founders began collecting discarded containers from local manufacturers, proving the concept that reconditioned totes could meet the same standards as new ones.
Full-Scale Reconditioning Center
Overwhelming demand pushed us to expand into a dedicated reconditioning facility at 145 Commerce Drive. We invested in professional-grade wash systems, multi-point inspection stations, and a growing fleet of transport vehicles to handle the volume our customers required.
Breaking the First Major Milestone
We hit our first major throughput milestone, processing over 1,000 IBC totes through our facility. This volume validated our reconditioning standards and established Rochester IBC as a trusted supplier for businesses across the greater Rochester metropolitan area.
Building Our Transport Capacity
We added our first flatbed truck and a second box truck to our fleet, tripling our delivery and pickup capacity. This investment allowed us to offer scheduled route service to high-volume customers and reduced turnaround times across the board.
Expanding Across the Northeast
Word spread beyond Monroe County. We built partnerships with chemical distributors, food processors, and agricultural operations across upstate New York, Pennsylvania, and New England. Our transport fleet grew to serve customers within a 300-mile radius of Rochester.
Industrial-Grade Cleaning Technology
We invested in state-of-the-art high-pressure, temperature-controlled wash systems capable of handling the full spectrum of residues. This upgrade dramatically improved our cleaning consistency and enabled us to accept totes from a wider range of prior applications.
Closing the Loop Completely
We achieved near-zero-waste status at our facility by implementing full material separation for end-of-life totes. Polyethylene bottles go to plastic recyclers, steel cages go to metal scrap processors, and even the wooden pallets are repaired or chipped for mulch. Nothing is wasted.
Implementing Container Traceability
We launched our digital tracking system, enabling us to log the history, prior contents, inspection results, and reconditioning status of every single tote that passes through our facility. This provides customers with full traceability and supports compliance documentation.
Launching Dedicated Account Services
We introduced our dedicated account management program for high-volume partners, offering scheduled pickups, priority reconditioning, reserved inventory, and customized pricing structures. This program transformed us from a vendor into a true supply chain partner.
Rochester Sustainability Recognition
Rochester IBC was recognized by local business and environmental organizations for our contributions to waste diversion and green job creation in the Rochester community. This milestone affirmed that our business model was not only profitable but genuinely impactful.
Scaling to Regional Impact
We crossed the 10,000 total totes processed milestone, representing over 500,000 pounds of material diverted from landfills. This scale of impact validated our model and demonstrated the enormous potential of IBC reconditioning to transform industrial waste management.
Rochester's Premier IBC Partner
Today, Rochester IBC is recognized as the region's leading IBC recycler and reconditioner. We process thousands of containers monthly, serve hundreds of businesses, and continue to invest in our people, our processes, and our mission to keep every possible tote out of the landfill.
Our Core Values
Circular Thinking
Every decision we make is filtered through a single question: does this extend the useful life of a container or reduce waste? From how we inspect totes to how we route our trucks, circular economy principles guide every aspect of our operation. We do not simply recycle — we keep materials in their highest-value state for as long as possible. This means prioritizing reconditioning over recycling, reuse over replacement, and repair over disposal at every opportunity.
Uncompromising Quality
A reconditioned IBC from Rochester IBC must perform identically to a new one. We hold ourselves to rigorous inspection and cleaning standards because our customers depend on it. Every tote that leaves our facility has been pressure-tested, visually inspected for structural integrity, and cleaned to the specifications required for its intended use. We would rather reject a tote and lose a sale than ship a container that could cause problems for a customer.
Honest Partnership
We treat every customer relationship as a long-term partnership. That means transparent pricing with no hidden fees, honest assessments of which totes can be reconditioned and which should be recycled, and responsive communication at every stage. If a tote does not meet our standards, we say so — even when that means processing fewer units. Our customers trust us because we have earned that trust through years of consistent, straightforward dealings.
Community Roots
Rochester is not just where we are located — it is who we are. We hire locally, source services from local vendors, and actively support Rochester's industrial ecosystem. When local businesses choose us over out-of-state suppliers, those dollars stay in the community, supporting jobs and strengthening the regional economy that sustains us all. We see ourselves as stewards not just of containers, but of the community we call home.
Continuous Improvement
We never assume our processes are as good as they can be. Every quarter, we review our reconditioning protocols, inspection criteria, logistics efficiency, and customer feedback to identify areas for improvement. We invest in better equipment, better training, and better systems because standing still in this industry means falling behind. Our customers benefit from a partner that is always getting better at what they do.
Safety First
Safety is non-negotiable at every level of our operation. Our team members are trained in proper handling procedures, chemical safety protocols, and equipment operation. Our facility meets or exceeds all OSHA requirements, and we conduct regular safety audits to identify and address potential hazards before they become incidents. The containers we sell are safe because the processes we use to recondition them are safe.
People Who Care About What They Do
Rochester IBC is not run by algorithms or automated systems. It is run by people who understand containers, understand manufacturing, and understand what it means to do a job right. Our reconditioning technicians have hands-on experience inspecting and cleaning thousands of IBCs. Our logistics coordinators know the roads, the routes, and the timing that keeps our customers' operations running without interruption. Our sales team takes the time to understand each customer's specific needs — whether that is a single reconditioned tote for a small batch operation or a fleet of containers for a large-scale manufacturer.
We invest in our team because their expertise is what makes the difference between a tote that performs flawlessly and one that causes problems down the line. Every team member receives thorough training on IBC specifications, material compatibility, cleaning protocols, and safety standards. And because we believe that the best work comes from people who feel valued, we prioritize fair compensation, a safe working environment, and a culture where every person's contribution is recognized.
Our team includes reconditioning specialists who have been trained in cleaning protocols for every IBC type and prior-content category. Our logistics coordinators are expert route planners who ensure on-time pickup and delivery across the region. Our quality inspectors have the experienced eyes to catch defects others miss, ensuring only top-quality totes ship. And our customer advisors are knowledgeable consultants who match you with the right containers for your application. Every person on the team understands that their work directly impacts the success of the businesses we serve.
We also believe in professional development. As IBC technology evolves, new materials enter the market, and regulations change, our team stays current through ongoing training and industry participation. We attend industry conferences, maintain relationships with IBC manufacturers, and monitor regulatory developments to ensure our knowledge base remains current and comprehensive. When you work with Rochester IBC, you benefit from a team that is deeply knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about what they do.
